One of Tallinn’s most luxurious five-star hotels is located in the former Revaler Handels-Bank building, designed by architect Peter Schreiberg from St. Petersburg. Before World War II and during the Soviet period, this building on the corner of Apotheka and Vene streets housed the post and telegraph center. Later, the building stood empty for years. Its lavish historicist décor makes it stand out in the context of the Old Town. During the Soviet period, new windows on the added fourth floor were set slightly back, creating balconies hidden behind the historical cornice. A new wing was built on the site of a part of the building that was destroyed in World War II. The junction between the building sections serves as the core of the new spatial program, connecting all parts of the complex. The first floor of the extension houses the spa and restaurant. The basement features a unique underground parking facility in the Old Town. The exclusive and occasionally extravagant hotel has received numerous accolades and seamlessly integrates into Tallinn’s most sensitive built environment, the Old Town.
