On the edge of Kadriorg Park, considered one of the most beautiful parks in Northern Europe, near Swan Pond, a gardener’s house, also known as an orangery, is being completed. The building will become a gardening complex with rooms necessary for park maintenance – the complex is a three-block building, like all other buildings belonging to the palace complex. One block will house the work and living rooms of Kadriorg Park’s gardeners, office and training rooms, and a repair workshop. The second block is planned to house a winter garden and storage space for ornamental plants brought in for the cold season. The third block will contain a greenhouse where other exotic plants are stored for use in the parks during the summer. The house was designed by the Architecture Bureau Karisma, which won the first place in the architecture competition held in 2018.

Sustainable Solutions (Building Futures Together):

Depending on the building’s specific requirements, there is ample lighting for plants, so the indoor lighting is generally economical, with reasonable quantities and easy maintenance. Modern plant cultivation solutions are employed to preserve, store, and propagate endangered historical park plant species. Solar panels will be installed on the roof for electricity generation and storage, and greenhouse ventilation will primarily be through operable windows.
