Estonian lighting designers invite you to an engaging walk through Tallinn’s urban space, where we explore architectural lighting design. Our journey begins in the Rotermann Quarter, where lighting is excellently combined with modern architecture, emphasizing and highlighting the unique features of the buildings. During the tour, we will show how lighting helps us better understand historical heritage and medieval architecture. As we move through the Old Town, we will observe how well-placed lighting can improve the perception of the surroundings, thereby ensuring a safe street space and creating a pleasant environment.

The route will also take us to green areas with integrated lighting, where we can see how it’s possible to highlight urban green spaces at night, emphasizing the importance of environmentally friendly lighting methods. During the walk, we will explore the various lighting design techniques used to make the nighttime urban space noticeable. We will discuss what was intentional and compare it with the achieved result while also noting the accidental. The aim of the walk is to draw attention to the impact of lighting design on the nighttime urban environment.
