Nõmme Gymnasium moved into the building at Raudtee 73 in October 1939. The secondary school, which had been operating for ten years prior, was located in the current Hiiu school building at Raudtee 55. The new school building, made of silicate bricks and featuring functionalist and early industrialist design elements, was designed by Edgar Velbri in collaboration with Nõmme city architect Friedrich Wendach. The sports facility was not built at that time and was only constructed in 2022 (architectural solution by Raadius Arhitektid OÜ).
During the Soviet period, the school continued under the name Tallinn 10th Secondary School. In 1999, an extension was completed with a tower, library, and planetarium, and a major renovation of the school building was carried out in 2007-2008. Nõmme Gymnasium’s alumni include numerous notable figures in Estonian society, scientists, and cultural personalities, including President Lennart Meri.
