Address:Külmallika tänav 15, Tallinn
Architects:2005-2006, Ehala ja Irik
The Nõmme Sports Center building, designed by the architecture firm Ehala and Irik and completed in 2006, is located near the Mustamäe pools. These pools are the only remaining part of the bathing establishment built in the late 1930s, spearheaded by entrepreneur Johan Must. The original complex was designed by architect Tõnis Mihkelson and included a café building completed in 1936 and a 50-meter swimming pool, followed a year later by the addition of changing rooms, a second, deeper pool, a 10-meter diving tower, and a swan pond. In the late 1930s, the Mustamäe bathing establishment hosted both Estonian championships and international swimming competitions. During the winters, the pools were used for winter swimming and ice skating. The café building was known for chess tournaments. During the Soviet period, the complex gradually fell into disrepair and began to deteriorate, and the historical buildings were destroyed in a fire in 1974.
