Open House Tallinn 2024 partner Ruukki answered our questions and reflected on urban space and accessibility.
What do you consider to be a people-friendly urban space? How can we create it ourselves?
A sustainable urban space focuses on preserving the environment and optimizing the use of local resources. It involves planning buildings and infrastructure to use energy as efficiently as possible, prioritizing renewable energy and environmentally friendly materials. We can contribute by being aware of the impact of construction materials, participating in community projects, and paying attention to how our daily activities affect the urban environment.
What is an interesting fact about your product that many people may not know?
Our entire production of roof profiles, warehouse, and logistics center for the Baltic region is located in Pärnu. Additionally, what sets our products apart is that the entire chain, from iron ore mining to roof installation, is managed within our group (meaning we do not purchase raw materials externally). We create value and are always looking toward a more sustainable future. Starting this year, we also offer our customers the new Ruukki Classic roof profile, “Ruukki Classic LowCarbon.” With a 70% smaller carbon footprint, LowCarbon is produced from SSAB Zero® steel, made from recycled scrap metal using fossil-free electricity and biogas.
This year’s focus at Open House Tallinn is inclusion and accessibility. How do you contribute to inclusion and accessibility?
One of our core principles is inclusion within our work culture, encouraging open communication, listening to others, and valuing their ideas. We work to ensure that everyone feels equally included and part of the team. Inclusion and accessibility also mean that we offer our colleagues opportunities and space for personal growth, whether through mentorship or simply by creating a supportive and inspiring environment.
Thank you!
